Gay Men's Health Crisis Holds Candidates Forum on January 23

Tuesday Jan 22, 2019

On Wednesday, January 23 at 6pm, Gay Men's Health Crisis (GMHC) and The New School will host a forum for candidates running for New York City Public Advocate. The forum will focus on a number of social and public health issues affecting New Yorkers, including HIV/AIDS prevention and education, substance use, mental health, LGBT rights, and discrimination.

"New York City has provided a progressive sanctuary for many populations who feel threatened by the Federal Government's discriminatory policies, but we still have work to do to solve a number of ongoing disparities, particularly in public health. Our next Public Advocate will confront a wide array of injustices affecting vulnerable New Yorkers, and we want to have the candidates who are running for this important role lay out their priorities for tackling the issues that GMHC and other health service organizations are committed to," said GMHC CEO Kelsey Louie.

Among the candidates confirmed as of today are: Michael Blake, Theo Chino, Daniel Christmann, Sami Disu, David Eisenbach, Rafael Espinal, Jr., Gwen Goodwin, Ifeoma Ike, Nomiki Konst, Melissa Mark-Viverito, Daniel O'Donnell, Ydanis Rodriguez, Dawn Smalls, Jumaane Williams, and Ben Yee.
