Joan Rivers Showtime Miniseries Starring Kathryn Hahn Isn't Happening
After an initial jolt of excitement over the news that Kathryn Hahn would be portraying legendary comedian Joan Rivers on the small screen, the Showtime network project isn't moving forward ... yet.
As reported by Entertainment Weekly, "The Comeback Girl," a miniseries following Rivers' life and legacy, won't move forward without the involvement of daughter Melissa Rivers.
Melissa is the manager of the comedian's estate and has the power to grant producers rights to jokes and catchphrases. The limited series would reportedly "risk legal issues using any of the late Rivers' material" without the estate's approval, reports EW.
Rivers died in 2014 at the age of 81. The miniseries planned to cover her life after the cancellation of "The Late Show Starring Joan Rivers at Fox," the suicide of her husband, and her own struggles with depression before she bounced back into the comedian everyone knows and loves today.
A spokesperson for Melissa confirmed that negotiations have ended on the project, but they don't call her mother the "Comeback Girl" for nothing.
