Jodie Foster Will Star, Executive Produce Season 4 of 'True Detective'
"True Detective" is returning to television — and so is out icon Jodie Foster, who will star in and executive produce the fourth season of the acclaimed anthology series, according to Deadline.
Deadline detailed that Foster will play the role of Detective Liz Danvers who, along with her partner Evangeline Navarro, is "looking to solve the case of six men that operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanishing without a trace, when the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska. The pair will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice."
Foster appeared as a child actor in guest spots on TV shows like "Gunsmoke," "Ironsides," "Bonanza," and "Adam-12," and she's had recurring roles on fondly-remembered series like "The Courtship of Eddie's Father" and "My Three Sons."
After starring in two short-lived TV versions of popular movies ("Bob & Carole & Ted & Alice" in 1973 and "Paper Moon" in 1974) Foster had no more major TV roles, focusing more on movies — although, as Deadline noted, Foster "lent her voice to series such as 'Frasier,' 'The X-Files' and 'The Simpsons' and has directed episodes of television such as 'Orange Is The New Black,' 'Black Mirror' and 'Tales From The Loop.'"
"True Detective" has starred a number of big-name actors over the course of its three seasons so far, including Mahershala Ali, Colin Farrell, Stephen Dorff, Woody Harrelson, Taylor Kitsch, Rachel McAdams, Matthew McConaughey, and Vince Vaughn. Its most recent season aired in 2019.
There's no word yet on when the new season will premiere.
