Brazilian Mom Who Admitted to Killing Teen Son for Being Gay Sentenced to 25 Years in Prison

A mother from Brazil was sentenced to more than 25 years in prison for killing her own son because he was gay, according to a report from Out magazine, which cites local news outlet Veja.

It was reported back in January 2017 that Tatiana Ferreira Lozano Pereira confessed to stabbing her 17-year-old son Itaberlly Lozano to death in Sao Paulo when two hitmen she hired failed to do the job in December 2016.

According to prosecutors, Pereira had been arguing with her son over being gay before hiring Victor Roberto da Silva and Miller da Silva Barissa to kill him. The men allegedly beat up Lozano after his mother lured him home, claiming she wanted to reconcile. Out reports that testimony claimed the men refused to kill the young boy and Pereira carried out the final act herself.

The mother admitted to killing her child at the trail, saying he threatened her life, according to the magazine's report.

Lozano's charred body was found on Jan. 7 2017, and Pereira also admitted at the time that her husband, Lozano's stepfather, helped carrying her son's body to a cane field where they burned it.

The boy's uncle told The Daily Mail at the time that Pereira rejected her son over his sexuality and that he was not violent.

"He had a job, he was very polite, [and] he never quarreled with anyone," Dario Rosa told police. "He only had problems with his mother, who did not accept that he was a homosexual."

Out reports that the jury sentenced Pereira to 25 years and eight months in prison for her connection to her son's death.
