Atlantic City Strikes Gold! Ari Gold!
JC Alvarez READ TIME: 3 MIN.
No longer taking a back seat to the politicking of the music industry, our very own out loud and proud pop/rock star Sir Ari Gold is getting set to sign-off the year like it's 1999. On the heels of an incredible standout season, Ari is preparing to take over the Jersey Shores for a special night at Pro Bar in Atlantic City.
He'll be debuting his latest single and taking the stage for his first appearance in the AC. "I'm really excited to be performing in Atlantic City," he said. Shortly after Superstorm Sandy had hit and devastated most of the northeast shoreline, Gold visited the entertainment destination which was putting itself back together. Having only sustained minor damage and now back up to 100%, Atlantic City and the Resorts Hotel & Casino are happily welcoming Ari Gold for his debut gig. "It's going to be great. I'm going to do a full show and then I'll also be doing a DJ set at Pro Bar."
It'll be one of the few times the singer has pulled double-duty, performing a live show and then getting behind the turntables to spin some of his favorite hits. "It's New Year's Eve, so it's going to be a really good time." Gold will be joining the list of artists who have listed the city among their favorites, and recently Pro Bar welcomed the legendary Martha Wash and Ce Ce Peniston to the stage.
That Funky Music...
With his new track about to be unleashed, he'll have no problem getting the crowd worked up to his latest remixes for "Play My F**Kn Record" the latest single from his album "Between the Spirit & The Flesh." In the upcoming video for the dance track, Ari stepped out onto the streets of Chelsea in New York City in the buff with a sign demanding DJs play his "fucking record!"
"I'm playing up the kind of desperation that we all feel sometimes to get our work our work out there," he joked ironically, "but really it is a celebration of the fact, because as gay out artists - they really are playing our record." Gold is referring to the fact that in mainstream media, including television, film and especially music, out artists are getting attention and well-received exposure. "But we still need more openly gay artists out there," Ari insists, and the community could also rally around more support of artists that pioneered the movement. Gold is among those artists who have always been honest about his sexuality, often referencing it in his music.
He was recently recognized for his contributions in music and video as the recipient of the "Visionary Award" at this year's Out Music Awards in Las Vegas, alongside cabaret favorite Joey Arias ("Lifetime Achievement Award") and songstress Diana King ("Vanguard Award"). "I do connect with my audience, and getting the work out there is very important to me as an artist," Gold says. "That's why that award means so much to me." In 2013 Gold will be releasing a 'greatest hits' remix package as well as a video retrospective of his career, which will include a special 3D version of the video for "Play My F**Kn Record."
"We're still really in the trenches in many ways," Gold says speaking about the current movement in Gay Civil RIghts, which has made huge strides in marriage equality across the country and the removal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" within our armed forces. "I'm very honored and grateful to have been making music for the last 12 years." Hit 'repeat', and play Ari Gold's f**king record into the New Year and on!
