Murdoch Twitter Rant: Boycott Guinness Over LGBT Support
Jason St. Amand READ TIME: 1 MIN.
Good old cranky Rupert Murdoch is no stranger to lashing out on Twitter, and on Monday the media magnate decided to voice his disproval of Irish beer producer Guinness to pull out of New York City's St. Patrick's Day Parade over its policy that prohibits openly LGBT people from participating.
"Where will this end? Guinness pulls out of religious parade bullied by gay orgs who try to take it over. Hope all Irish boycott the stuff," he wrote Monday.
His comments come soon after officials from Guinness and Heineken announced they would be withdrawing sponsorship of the New York City St. Pat's parade. Additionally, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio sat out of the event to show solidarity with the LGBT community.
Similar reactions occurred with Boston's St. Patrick's Day Parade after organizers refused to let an LGBT group openly march. Boston Mayor Marty Walsh snubbed the event and Boston Brewer Company, which makes Sam Adams, also nixed their sponsorship.
