'Gay Camp' Plays Ptown's Crown and Anchor

EDGE READ TIME: 2 MIN.

It's gay; it's camp; it's "Gay Camp" in Provincetown!

After a sold-out run and rave reviews at the Duplex Cabaret Theatre in New York City, the hit show "Gay Camp" will make a splash on the Ptown stage beginning July 7, 2014 at the Crown and Anchor Cabaret Room.

"Gay Camp" - penned by co-authors Philip Mutz and Susan-Kate Heaney - is a quick-change farce that follows the stories of several young campers at a gay reform camp. They have been sent away by their parents to be 'fixed'. Instead, they learn how to love - themselves and one another.

Combining fast-paced writing, video, show tunes, dancing, sketch, improv, audience interaction, and razor-sharp comedic performances by three actors playing more than a dozen zany characters, "Gay Camp" is fast, funny, and not pulling its punches as it takes on the anti-gay movement in America.

Start with a deliciously evil counselor facing off against a loud-and-proud young camper, throw in a few electrified fences, gorgeous go-go boys, disco balls, Cher ballads, gay Twister, Michele Bachmann surprises, slow-motion fantasies, Straight vs. Gay lessons, whips, handcuffs, flannel, and more innuendos than you can shake a dildo at, and you've got "Gay Camp."

Winner of the FringeNYC 2012 "Best Ensemble" award, "Gay Camp" was called "One of the funniest, craziest and wildest shows I have ever seen" by the Times Square Chronicles, and Time Out NY says "Christian Mansfield, Philip Mutz and Ken Urso are adorable, boundlessly energetic and rarely less than hilarious."

Featured in this past September's OUT Magazine, "Gay Camp" has been playing to sold-out houses, and receiving rave reviews since its inception.

"Gay Camp" runs 55 minutes and will perform at The Cabaret Room at the Crown and Anchor, 247 Commercial Street, Provincetown.

July 7 - August 28
