Tom Ford's Penis Shaped Pendant Perturbs Catholic League Pres.
EDGE READ TIME: 1 MIN.
We know one thing that Catholic League blowhard Bill Donohue won't be getting in his stocking this Christmas, and it isn't coal.
A penis-shaped pendant from designer and provocateur Tom Ford has been drawing fire on the Internet over its resemblance to a cross. Among the many voices objecting is Bill Donohue, president and CEO of the anti-gay Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights.
In a statement on the Catholic League's website Donohue said, "When we learned of this item, I said to the staff that I bet this guy Tom Ford is a homosexual." I was right. He even thinks he's married."
In April, Ford married his partner of 27 years, journalist Richard Buckley. The couple have a 1-year-old son together, Alexander John Buckley Ford.
"A designer gets a little too cute with my religion at Christmastime, and uses sexual imagery to make a quick buck off of it," Donohue told the Huffington Post. "Sounds like someone who is not exactly Catholic-friendly, and has some sexual hang-ups as well. It doesn't take a Ph.D. in Profiling to guess just who might be behind this sick gambit."
According to Jezebel, the pendants aren't Ford's first foray into phalic-inpired finery. In 2002, the renegade fashion icon designed penis jewelry while working as Creative Director for Yves Saint Laurent.
The pendant, which debuted at Ford's spring-summer 2015 show in London is available in small and medium gold or silver and can only be purchased in Tom Ford shops in New York, Las Vegas and Beverly Hills. It retails for $790.
