Callen-Lorde Community Health Center announces plans to address the growing healthcare needs of New York City's LGBTQ communities by expanding its services into Brooklyn beginning in 2019.

The agency has signed a 20-year lease for a space at 40 Flatbush Avenue Extension in Downtown Brooklyn. The lease will allow Callen-Lorde to serve a greater number of people in the city, building on its current operations in Manhattan and the Bronx. The organization continues to be a leader in meeting the healthcare needs of LGBTQ and underserved communities, including those living with HIV.

"We are thrilled to be moving forward with this expansion to increase access to affirming, culturally-competent health care services targeted to LGBTQ and underserved communities in Brooklyn," said Wendy Stark, Callen-Lorde's executive director. "Over the last three years we have increased from one to three clinical sites, and yet there is still incredible unmet need. We look forward to strengthening our partnerships with other service providers, organizations, and community groups in the borough as we prepare for a 2019 opening."

"Our Brooklyn expansion represents the Board's ongoing commitment to our core mission of providing sensitive, quality healthcare and related services targeted to New York's lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities -- in all their diversity -- regardless of ability to pay," said Callen-Lorde Board Chair Laura A. Jacobs. "During a time when threats to health care access are ever-present, we feel a deep commitment to bring expanded services to New Yorkers who need them most."

Callen-Lorde Brooklyn will provide health services targeted to LGBTQ communities and other vulnerable populations.

Callen-Lorde is the global leader in LGBTQ healthcare. Since the days of Stonewall, Callen-Lorde has been transforming lives by providing a welcoming environment for LGBTQ communities to get quality care, free of judgment and regardless of ability to pay.

The first LGBTQ-centric healthcare provider, Callen-Lorde is widely recognized for its innovative HIV and transgender care. We continuously pioneer research, advocacy and education to drive positive change -- not just for our patients -- but for all LGBTQ people.
