Watch: Giant Snow Penis Appears in Swedish Town, Ruled Safety Hazard
READ TIME: 2 MIN.
In the Swedish town of Bors a tradition has grown over the past five years of building a large snow sculpture in a roundabout after a snowstorm. The latest has gone viral.
A three-meter-high (or nearly 10-feet tall) snow penis appeared there after a heavy snowfall last week, causing both giggles and safety concerns, reported The Local, the English language website from Sweden.
In a story called "Giant penis in snow stands by highway 40." the Swedish newspaper Gteborgs-Posten, Helena Alenius, the CEO of a marketing company that promotes the town commented: "I am a little impressed, because it is not something that you build in the blink of an eye and it must be site-built. It looks well made, I hope they had fun when they did it."
But she didn't think it would have a negative effect on the town's image. "It probably does not build long-term value, either positively or negatively. A few years ago, Bors became known as the place in the country where women were happiest sexually. It also got a lot of attention for the moment, but it passed quickly. This is exactly what will melt away by itself, I think."
But the Swedish Transport Administration isn't giggling, saying that it can be dangerous in traffic.
But the snow penis is not just a giggling element in the traffic environment. It stands in a roundabout that the Swedish Transport Administration takes care of and the sculpture can be dangerous in traffic. "There must be no signs or artistic expressions that disturb the traffic environment and safety. If we find such during inspections, we remove it. It often ends up in a warehouse with one of our subcontractors," Sofia Lindahl, press communicator at the Swedish Transport Administration, told the Gteborgs-Posten.
