Elton John, his husband, the producer David Furnish and director RJ Cutler attended the London Film Festival gala of "Elton John: Never Too Late" on Thursday.

The documentary sees the singer look back at his career, alongside unseen footage and concert footage, like singing with John Lennon at Madison Square Garden in 1974.

Elton reflects on his achievements while preparing to play Dodger Stadium for the last time.

At the London Film Festival, John said the film was an honest portrayal of his career and the personal challenges he faced.

"I wanted it to show the difference between being successful when you have no foundation and you're just hurtled into five years of just non-stop work and success and finding out that you're very empty inside," said the singer. "What else is there? And then 47 years later, I come off stage for the last time in America and Dodger Stadium again, where I have the most wonderful life. No sadness, just happiness, family, children, husband, friends, sobriety."

"Never Too Late" previously premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, is showing in cinemas in the U.K. and U.S. Nov. 15.

It will be released on Disney+ Dec. 13.

London Film Festival runs until Sunday 20 October, when it closes with another musical biopic, "Piece By Piece" about Pharrell Williams.
