Out Influencers Max Emerson and Andres Camilo Split After L.A. Fire Destroys Their Home

The fire that swept through L.A.'s Pacific Palisades and surrounding areas burned the home of out influencers Max Emerson and Andres Camilo – and the two are launching new, separate beginnings.
The now-former couple posted jointly about their decision to split, explaining in a Jan. 14 Instagram message that "The fire that took our home accelerated this decision by giving us clarity and simplicity."
"We were already beginning to explore different paths," the two, who had been together for nine years, posted, adding that the "tragedy is serving as a catalyst for a clean break."
"It's time to start again, as individuals."
A few days earlier, on Jan. 11, the pair posted a group of images, including video of the blaze, writing that they had "fully restored this home with the hope of starting our family here. Words cannot fully convey the devastation we feel for all that was lost in less than twenty four hours."
That post followed a video the two put up on Jan. 10 in which they assured fans they were safe, having traveled to Utah to work. With Camilo seated in an armchair and Emerson nestled against his leg, the two spoke movingly of their personal losses and expressed compassion for their neighbors – and, more broadly, the entire world.
"We're grieving for our planet," they said. But, they added, "We're filled with a massive sense of hope."
The announcement of their separation was paired with three images showing the two together. In one shot they played on hanging rings, shirtless and clad in jams; in another they cuddled close, with colored lights playing over their faces. The third shot showed them looking more formal, with Camilo in military uniform.
The end of their coupledom is seemingly free of recrimination and acrimony. In the joint post, Emerson and Camilo went on to tell their followers that "Our time together wasn't wasted. We still love each other fully, deeply, and unconditionally. That love doesn't end; it evolves."
"We are part[ing] ways with respect and gratitude, carrying forward all that we've learned."
Fans responded to the example the two influencers set, expressing affection and admiration for the calm and mature approach they chose to take.
"You taught us how to be a couple," one person posted in the comments, "now you're teaching us how to separate with dignity."
"No love like this is ever wasted," another person offered. "That you are ending your relationship with the same love respect and dignity that you started it, is a sign of respect, maturity and how deeply you care for each other. I've no doubt it's very difficult nonetheless."
"Love and support to you both," a third follower commented. "Take care of yourselves as you process all of the things happening in your lives right now."
As previously reported, the L.A. fires have destroyed thousands of homes, with a number of celebrities losing their residences in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood even as a second fire ravaged Eaton, another area proximate to Los Angeles.
