Aren't Republicans supposed to like elephants?

In a move which has enraged people on opposite sides of the political spectrum, the Trump Administration continued its ongoing assault against all that's decent Wednesday by lifting an Obama-era ban on the import of the heads of elephants killed in two African countries.

According to ABC News, the Trump administration plans to allow hunters to import trophies of elephants they killed in Zimbabwe and Zambia back to the United States. The move continues a trend by the 45th president to reverse Obama-era actions. The ban on importing elephant trophies was put in place in 2014.

The Washington Post notes that the change in policy comes just days after Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke established an "International Wildlife Conservation Council" to advise him on how to increase Americans' public awareness of conservation, wildlife enforcement and the "economic benefits that result from U.S. citizens traveling abroad to hunt."

Ironically, the move proved to unite politically opposed pundits and celebrities.

Taking to Twitter, former First Daughter Chelsea Clinton wrote:

Vocal Trump critic Cher was similarly outraged.

As was actress Martha Plimpton

In a shocking move, conservative Fox News personality Laura Ingraham broke ranks and blasted the administration.

The Hill notes that imports will be allowed for elephants killed between Jan. 21 and the end of 2018.
